This evening, the Queen’s children – King Charles III, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew – stood vigil by her coffin in Westminster Hall ahead of her funeral on Monday.

As viewers tuned into the live coverage on BBC One, some spotted Big Suze from Peep Show standing with the royals, expressing their utter shock as they discovered she married into the family.

The actress who played Big Suze on the sitcom – Sophie Winkleman, half-sister to Strictly Come Dancing presenter Claudia Winkleman – wed Lord Frederick Windsor in 2009, with her title becoming Lady Frederick Windsor.

Lord Frederick is the son of Prince Michael of Kent, a cousin to Queen Elizabeth II.

Several people on Twitter expressed their shock over seeing Sophie appear on their TV screens at the vigil standing with other members of the royal family, with one tweeting: ‘Hang on, is that Big Suze from Peep Show at the Lying-in-State?!?’

‘Watched my first bit of royal coverage there (only English Channel in the hotel is sky news) and spotted/discovered that Big Suze from Peep Show is a royal, what a crossover,’ another said.

Journalist Caitlin Moran also chimed in, tweeting: ‘Just watched Prince Charles stand vigil over his dead mother whilst Big Suze from Peep Show looked on. There’s no point in even saying “This country is nuts” any more.’

‘Big Suze is there to watch the Princes’ vigil of the Queen. Peep Show is basically a documentary,’ someone else quipped.

In addition to Peep Show, Sophie, 42, also starred in productions including Red Dwarf: Back to Earth, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, Robin Hood and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

She and her husband, who’s 43, have two daughters together, born in 2013 and 2016 respectively.

Several celebrities have visited Westminster Hall to pay their respects to the Queen, including This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, and Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid.

David Beckham queued for 13 hours after joining the line in the early hours of the morning, with the former professional footballer becoming emotional as he reached the Queen’s coffin.

TV presenter Dan Walker jumped to David’s defence on Twitter after a naysayer claimed the ex-England captain may have queued up to pay his respects for ‘exposure’.

‘Have a word with yourself Chris. He’s been there since 2am this morning. If he wants headlines he pops to the chippy in his PJs,’ he replied.
