Fate: The Winx Saga stars Eliot Salt and Hannah van der Westhuysen have reminisced about their audition for the hit Netflix fantasy drama.

Eliot plays Terra, the bashful and plant-loving suitemate of Bloom (Abigail Cowen), while Hannah is Queen Bee Stella at magical boarding school Alfea.

The pair, along with their fellow fairy students, fight monsters the Burned Ones in season one, while dealing the with disappearance of beloved headteacher Farah Dowling (Eve Best) in the gripping finale.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Eliot, who was also in Normal People, joked about her audition for Fate: The Winx Saga, revealing she was asked to knock a few years off her performance.

The 28-year-old said: ‘I went in and a lovely casting director assistant, I did the scene as Terra and then she said, “Could you do it again but like 10 years younger?”‘

Bursting into laughter, alongside her co-star Hannah, Eliot said the tweak paid off after her second attempt secured the coveted part.

Still giggling, Hannah said: ‘What were you doing before? Holding a Zimmer frame?’

Eliot quipped: ‘I mean, I threw out my skincare regime.’

Hannah, 27, said their audition brought back memories of being a teen, adding: ‘I remember doing my audition then just being like, “God, being a teenager is b***dy awful. Isn’t it?”

With a new order in place in the Otherworld with Rosalind, played by Miranda Richardson in season two, taking a more militant approach to managing the boarding school compared to her predecessor, the fairies will once again find themselves weeding out evil.

But as well as new enemies, Hannah teased that there will also be plenty of romance, joking the fantasy series had much in common with Love Island.

They said: ‘I think there’s so much in the bubbling romance and tension between so many different characters. And fundamentally, they are a bunch of teenagers. And we all know what teenagers are like.’

Eliot continued: I think what is really fun about the show, and I hope will continue as we move forward, is that anybody could kind of [hook up]. There’s all to play for.’

Hannah added: ‘It’s Love Island. So keep your stans and ships coming!’
