It’s time to return to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom! The stars are ready… and so are we.
After much anticipation, the 2022 series of the dancing competition just around the corner, with celebrities including Helen Skelton, Fleur East and James Bye ready to take to the dancefloor in their bids to win the Glitterball Trophy.
With the launch having been delayed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, official portraits have now been released of the cast in all their sequined and tasseled glory.
While we don’t know yet which famous faces will be partnered up with which professional dancers, it looks like they’re getting in the groove of all things Strictly after donning their brand new gladrags.
This year’s line-up is full of exciting talent, from former England football star Tony Adams to Ted Lasso actress Ellie Taylor, Paralympian Ellie Symonds and actor Will Mellor.
The cast will also be made up of Loose Women panelist Kaye Adams, Corrie star Kym Marsh, singer Matt Goss, radio presenter Tyler West, Britain’s Got Talent finalist Molly Rainford, comedian Jayde Adams, Wildlife presenter Hamza Yassin and BBC Radio 2’s Richie Anderson.

We can’t wait to find out who’ll impress the judges, as Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas grace the panel.
Motsi recently opened up about the relationships between the judges, revealing that it’s strictly business.
Admitting that they don’t hang out outside of working hours, she said: ‘There’s so much pressure – it’s prime time, so you get in, you do the job and everybody just wants to go home.’

While Strictly hasn’t yet returned to our screens, rehearsals are in full swing, with singer Fleur revealing that she actually slept past her alarm and wound up late for her own radio show after her first day of training.
‘I’m so sorry guys but you’ve been holding down the fort really well!’ she said when she finally made it to the show.
Addressing her listeners, she then added: ‘We filmed the launch show for Strictly yesterday and the adrenaline was pumping, the energy was high, and we finished really, really late. I set both of my alarms but I just slept completely through them. I only woke up Matt when you called me to say where are you?!’

Following the Queen’s death, former Strictly star JJ Chalmers shared during a TV interview with Huw Edwards that the late monarch was apparently a fan of the BBC programme.
JJ, who appeared on the 2020 series, said: ‘I’ve never said this one, but one of the most lovely things I’ve ever seen was, following the death of her husband my father had obviously written to her and she returned a letter which was typed and had all the expected notes within it, but at the bottom was a handwritten message that said: “I’ve just realised that the JJ Chalmers that I’ve been watching on the coverage of my husband’s funeral is the same JJ Chalmers that you told me of being injured all those years ago”.
‘And also a line that said: “And the same JJ Chalmers that I enjoyed watching on Strictly Come Dancing”. That’s the great thing.
‘So yes she has two things actually, she has an incredible memory but she also watches Strictly Come Dancing.’

This year, Strictly will mark the 100th anniversary of the BBC with a special themed week, as well as viewers’ favourite weeks including Movie Week, Halloween Week and the much-loved Musicals Week.
The cast will also finally have a chance to perform at the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom, having been unable to for the past two years due to the pandemic.
Strictly Come Dancing is set to return on Friday September 23 at 7pm on BBC One with the first live show taking place on Saturday September 24 at 6.45pm on BBC One.
