Black Panther star Letitia Wright has said she dedicated every scene of the sequel to her co-star, the late Chadwick Boseman so that he could be ‘proud’ of what they’d done for the second instalment.
A sneak peek at the new film was released in July with a trailer, spanning just over two minutes long, taking a poignant tone.
In it, the characters appear to be in mourning over king T’Challa, the titular character played by Boseman, who died in August 2020 aged 43 following a private battle with colon cancer.
Now, in a new interview, Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri in the film, says the upcoming sequel honours Boseman and is a ‘love letter’ to the late actor.
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she said she dedicated every scene to Boseman so that he could be proud of what they’d done.
‘I feel, for me, it’s a beautiful contribution to Chadwick’s legacy,’ Wright, 28, said.

‘I feel like it’s a love letter to him. I know every day that I went on set, I focused my energy on each scene to dedicate it to him. I wanted to dedicate excellence to this film so that he could be proud.’
It’s not clear who replaces Boseman as T’Challa, with Marvel bosses deciding not to recast his famous role.
However, a figure is seen donning the character’s costume in the film’s trailer and a mural of Boseman is marked on the side of a building as a clear tribute to the beloved late actor.

Director Ryan Coogler explained at this year’s Comic-Con, how the production team had ‘put our love for Chadwick into this film’.
The filmmaker recalled sitting with Boseman at a previous Comic-Con, saying: ‘Chadwick had these huge hands and he was just squeezing down on my shoulders. I felt his hand the rest of the day.
‘I promise you, I can feel his hand on me right now.’
