As one of the most iconic Halloween films, it’s no wonder director Anne Fletcher found it ‘daunting’ to take on creating the sequel to the beloved Hocus Pocus.
The filmmaker, 56, is at the helm of the upcoming comedy horror set to launch on Disney Plus on September 30.
It is a followup to the original 1993 classic and sees Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy reprise their roles as the iconic Sanderson Sisters.
And with all eyes on the spooky offering to see if it lives up to its predecessor, Anne admitted she was ‘scared’ of getting it wrong and upsetting the film’s hardcore fanbase.
‘It’s a daunting task to take on something like this with the fandom because you don’t want to blow it,’ she told SFX Magazine.
‘It is very scary, I’ve never done a sequel.’

She said she agreed to do the film as it gave us an insight into the backstory of the Sanderson Sisters, with the opening of Hocus Pocus 2 showing us the young witches.
‘Those are the things that I love the most – within the grounding you can be silly and stupid, and over the top and crazy,’ she added.
“But now the fans get a little peek into the earlier years of our witches. Which to me is a blast. So I took the movie for that particular reason.’
Joining Sarah, Bette, and Kathy in the cast will be Doug Jones, Hannah Waddingham, Froy Gutierrez, Sam Richardson, and Tony Hale among others.

According to an official synopsis of the new film, Hocus Pocus 2 will follow the events of the first movie.
It reads: ‘It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters who were executed for practicing witchcraft, and they are looking for revenge.
‘Now it is up to three high-school students to figure out how to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.’
Hocus Pocus 2 premiere on Disney Plus on September 30, 2022.
