Author Stephen Chbosky has revealed he has sent a letter of support to actor Ezra Miller during their ongoing legal and behavioural troubles.
Chbosky directed the film version of his novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which starred Miller, in 2012.
Miller, who identifies as non-binary, acted in one of the main roles of the movie, playing Patrick opposite Logan Lerman and Emma Watson.
They were recently charged by US police over an alleged burglary in the state of Vermont, for which they are due to appear in Vermont Superior Court on September 26.
Their multiple controversies in the past several months also include being arrested twice in Hawaii on charges of second-degree assault and disorderly conduct at a karaoke bar, as well as allegations of grooming a child from the age of 12.
Miller has been accused too of hosting a woman and three young children at their farm in an ‘unsafe environment.’

Now, Chbosky, who hasn’t spoken with Miller in a decade, has said that he wrote them a letter ‘to show his support’ when reports of the 29-year-old’s issues started hitting the press – although he is unsure if he had the right email address.
He told Vanity Fair: ‘I hope Ezra finds the light that they shined so brightly back when we shot the movie because the kid I met was a remarkably magical person.
‘And I always like to believe that that person is always in there, and I hope that they can find the help that they need.’

The Flash star has recently reportedly apologised to Warner Bros executives for ‘bringing negative attention to the production and the company’ ahead of his superhero’s standalone flick, currently still slated for a June 2023 release, with his legal controversies.
He has also announced that he has begun treatment for a series of ‘complex mental health issues’ after going through ‘a time of intense crisis’.
His multiple controversies in the past several months also include being arrested twice in Hawaii on charges of second-degree assault and disorderly conduct at a karaoke bar, as well as allegations of grooming a child from the age of 12.
He has been accused too of hosting a woman and three young children at their farm in an ‘unsafe environment.’
