A mum-of-two has said that going to pay her respects to the Queen lying in state was better than having her children.

Sarah and her partner Mark appeared on BBC One’s coverage of the late monarch’s state funeral on Monday morning where they revealed they were among some of the last people to see her coffin before she is laid to rest.

Speaking to presenter Sophie Raworth, Sarah said that she headed down to join the queue of mourners late on Sunday night after roping in her mother to help care for her kids.

She and her other half Mark were among the last of the hundreds of thousands of people who waited for hours to pay their respects.

Describing the experience, Sarah said that it topped childbirth, telling the programme: ‘Amazing, I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life. Even having my children, Lily and Luca, I think this tops that. It was just amazing.

‘I’m so pleased we did it.’

She explained that the trip down to London was a last-minute decision. ‘I couldn’t find anyone to look after my own children, so I asked my mum,’ she continued.

‘It just came over us and we said we’ve got to go.’

Mark added that the Westminster Hall was ‘surreal’, with Sarah saying that you could hear a pin drop. ‘It looked like a photograph,’ she exclaimed.

The Queen is to be reunited with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh as she is laid to rest in a historic state funeral today.

Crowds of mourners are expected to flock to London, Windsor, and royal sites throughout the UK on the national bank holiday, with the service set to make history as the most-watched broadcast as millions are expected to watch it across the globe.
