Stacey Solomon has thrown her support behind those mourning Queen Elizabeth II after previously saying she doesn’t ‘get’ the royals.

The Loose Women star was defended by fans after a clip from a 2018 episode of the ITV daytime show reappeared online following the Queen’s death, with Stacey admitting at the time she didn’t see ‘the point’ in the royal family.

On Monday, the world was paying its respects to the late monarch – who died aged 96 at Balmoral on September 8 – when her state funeral took place, and Stacey marked the occasion with a tribute of her own.

Alongside a picture of the Queen, she wrote: ‘Thinking of everyone finding today so sad & difficult. And thinking of all of those who have ever lost a beloved person in their lives. Saying goodbye forever is always hard.’

She finished the message on her Instagram Story with a white heart emoji.

The emotional post comes five years after Stacey told her fellow Loose Women panellists she ‘didn’t get the point of the royals, insisting: ‘I don’t get any of it.’

I won’t allow a bad word to be said about Stacey Solomon. She articulated a valid, widely held viewpoint. It’s not malicious and more importantly, these comments were unearthed from 2018. They weren’t made in the aftermath of the Queen’s death. Stop x pic.twitter.com/WQvkgV81EK

She said: ‘I don’t get why we’re so obsessed with these humans that are exactly the same – it could be us four sitting there. I just don’t get it.’

‘I don’t get any of it,’ she said.

Jane Moore asked: ‘Do you mean, like, as royals, or as like, Kim Kardashian? Because for me, they’re becoming like celebrities.’

‘To me that’s all they are,’ Stacey retorted, while Linda Robson then replied: ‘I love the Queen’.

‘But for what?’ Stacey asked, with Jane responding: ‘For duty, for responsibility…’

‘She’s always worked really hard,’ Linda, 64, said, as Stacey responded: ‘But I would work really hard if the whole country paid for me to have like 12 houses, to work really hard.’

While Stacey has faced some criticism over the resurfaced video, plenty of people defended her when it recirculated online following the Queen’s death.

Echoing the sentiments of many, one fan wrote: ‘It’s possible to feel deep sorrow at the passing of a staunch matriarch & still appreciate what Stacey Solomon is saying here: there is no excuse for the obscene inequality Britain’s finest bootlickers & class villains have spent the last 12 years further widening & entrenching.’

Another added: ‘I won’t allow a bad word to be said about Stacey Solomon. She articulated a valid, widely held viewpoint. It’s not malicious and more importantly, these comments were unearthed from 2018. They weren’t made in the aftermath of the Queen’s death. Stop.’

A third fan tweeted: ‘Solidarity with Stacey Solomon.’
