The Queen’s state funeral is taking place today following her death at Balmoral on September 9 aged 96, after a reign of more than 70 years.

The Queen’s coffin has been lying in state in Westminster Hall since 3pm on Wednesday, arriving after the Royal Family accompanied her on foot in an emotional final farewell to Buckingham Palace.

The late monarch has been lying in state for four days, as the nation says goodbye at her funeral today.

The day has been declared a national bank holiday in the UK so people can watch the service and pay their respects to Her Majesty, with a two-minute silence to be held at 11.55am.

The funeral is expected to become the most watched global broadcast in history with an approximate 4.1billion people tuning in for the monumental event.

At 8am, the doors to Westminster Abbey opened for guests and the congregation to take their seats, with heads of state and overseas government representatives, including foreign royal families, governors-general, and realm prime ministers gathering at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea before travelling to Westminster.

Just after 10.35am, a bearer party from The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, will lift the coffin from a wooden frame and carry it to the Royal Navy’s State Gun Carriage by the North Door of Westminster Hall.

The King and members of the royal family will walk behind the carriage.

The procession will arrive at the West Gate of Westminster Abbey at 10.52am and the coffin will be lifted off the carriage by the bearer party and carried inside before the funeral begins.
