Disaster struck on Great British Bake Off’s Biscuit Week as Carole’s mask showstopper bake collapsed minutes before she had to present it.
Carole, loved for her pink hair, incredible accent, and adorable nickname (‘Compost Carole’) was left heartbroken and in tears as she looked at her collapsed bake.
The bakers had been tasked with creating a mask made out of biscuits, which is able to stand upright.
Carole took inspiration from Phantom of the Opera with her bake, which had a gingerbread base and also included macaroons, and orange tuiles.
But, shortly after she finished it, she saw it collapse, and broke down in tears.
‘Can’t mend that,’ she insisted, as other bakers rushed to help. ‘It’s just collapsed.’
A tearful Carole said: ‘I was so pleased with it, really pleased.’
As Carole reflected on the disaster, Noel Fielding told her: ‘What you don’t want to do is panic, [take] a minute to just calm down.’
Fans were absolutely heartbroken for Carole, with one writing: ‘Carole going to offer help to everyone but then having her own bake ruined actually broke my heart.’
‘I am literally in tears at Carole asking everyone if they want any help, all the while her showstopper has broken on the stand,’ another said.
‘CAROLE oh my god the nation is crying with you we LOVE you,’ one more said, while another viewer tweeted: ‘Hands up if you’re crying for compost Carole.’
Thankfully, Carole made it through the episode, but fans were sad to see Maisam eliminated after she failed to impress with her showstopper.
Meanwhile, Maxy was awarded star baker after absolutely smashing it in the challenges.
Great British Bake Off returns Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
