Susanna Reid has reflected on working as a journalist for the Queen’s funeral yesterday, saying she was honoured to be there.
The late monarch was buried alongside her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle last night, following a state funeral at Westminster Abbey.
The royal family, including Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were in attendance, as well as hundreds of heads of state. London was packed with mourners and called for the largest policing operation undertaken by the Metropolitan Police.
Presenter Reid hosted a special episode of Good Morning Britain from outside Westminster Abbey on Monday, along with her co-host Ben Shephard.
‘It was like being an eye-witness to history, wasn’t it?’ she said as she spoke of the momentous day.
‘A real privileged position and it was an honour to be there with you [the viewers] yesterday morning and now the Queen has been laid to rest.’

Shephard praised the Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, who carried the Queen’s coffin.
‘Those eight young men who shouldered the queen’s coffin all day,’ he said. ‘Every single moment was being judged. At no point did these young men make a mistake.
‘It was just the most remarkable performance from them. To do it with the weight of the world on their shoulders, it was just spellbinding.’

After Monday’s Good Morning Britain, broadcasters Tom Bradby and Julie Etchingham then went on to host ITV’s coverage of the historic event, with guests and royal experts joining them throughout the day, while other reporters were staged at key landmarks.
