Robbie Williams has revealed he would like to perform during the legends slot, one of the most prestigious sets an artist can secure, at next year’s Glastonbury.
The former Take That singer, 48, last week secured his 14th chart-topping record with the album XXV, overtaking Elvis Presley (who scored 13 UK number one albums), to become the solo artist with the most UK number one albums, the Official Charts Company said.
Celebrating 25 years as an artist, the 48-year-old shared that he is ‘incredibly grateful that the ship goes forward’, and would look forward to returning at Glasto, but this time in the legends slot.
Robbie performed at one of the wettest festivals in Glastonbury history in 1998 , where he sported bleach-blonde spiky hair, dark sunglasses, and a pretty bright orange tan.
Asked if he would be up for another Glastonbury performance, but this time in the legends slot at the Worthy Farm event, Robbie told BBC Breakfast: ‘Yeah, that’d be cool. Actually, I’d like to do that. I’d like another go round on that stage and feel that audience and get the chance to do it.’
But, when the Angels singer was shown footage of Mel C saying that the Spice Girls for the legends slot would be the ‘absolute dream’, he quipped: ‘The Spice Girls trumps a Robbie Williams so maybe I’ll have to wait’.

He added of Glastonbury: ‘It is the epicentre of the music world for that weekend. Everybody’s watching, everybody’s got their eyes on it.
‘And that kind of thing doesn’t exist these days because music on TV has died a death and music being a potent, viable thing that gets you to sit down on a Thursday night at seven o’clock for a half an hour now doesn’t exist.
‘So yeah, it’s a big deal.’

He added to the BBC: ‘My big feeling is, my best years professionally could have been from when I was 16 to 21 when I was in Take That.
‘I know how brittle my ego is and I know how fragile I am as a human being and to be a has been… or whatever it was that would have happened to me after Take That, I’m incredibly grateful that the ship still goes forward. That’s it.
‘In short, I’m incredibly grateful, that’s what the anniversary has done for me.’

Robbie’s comments come after rumours that the Spice Girls will be headlining Glastonbury 2023.
Consisting of Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown (Mel B), Melanie Chisholm (Mel C), Emma Bunton, and Geri Halliwell, the group became one of the most successful girl groups of all time, selling millions of albums and even bagging their own movie.
The group first split in 2000, leaving fans heartbroken, but they reunited in 2019 for a UK and Ireland tour, without fashion designer Victoria.

However, reports say the rest of the girls are keen for her to join them for a set at Worthy Farm next year.
Victoria last performed with the band in 2012 at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, but music industry sources claim a performance at Glasto next year is in ‘advanced’ talks, with or without her.

According to Mail Online, an insider said: ‘The negotiations are ongoing but they have reached a stage where things are really looking likely, with or without Victoria.’
They added: ‘The Spice Girls are not a band to typically perform at Glastonbury but they are legendary and it will be so much fun.’
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
