The One Show presenter Alex Jones was overcome with emotion after speaking to members of the public about Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy.

The monumental event, which is expected to become the most watched global broadcast in history with an approximate 4.1billion people tuning in, took place on Monday September 19, following the Her Majesty’s death Thursday September 8 aged 96, after a reign of more than 70 years.

Many, including the Duchess of Sussex, were left in tears by the moving scenes taking place in London.

During Monday’s special episode titled Our Queen Remembered, the 45-year-old presenter and co-host Gethin Jones, toured across the UK to discuss the late monarch with members of the public.

Alex, however, was particularly moved after speaking to one man who branded the loss as heartbreaking.

‘What does it mean to you that we’ve lost our Queen?’ she asked.

‘Broke my heart’ he replied to an emotional Alex.

He continued: ‘Still, you know what they say. The Queen has died, so long live the King.’

Soon after the camera cut to Alex and Gethin in the studio where Alex reflected on the interaction.

‘I’ll tell you what, speaking to that last gentleman nearly broke my heart,’ she told Gethin.
