The Great British Bake Off 2022 is underway, with biscuits and cakes already baked and two contestants – Will and Maisam – having already bid farewell to the tent.

As well as changing presenters over the years – with Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding currently joining judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood on the show – but that isn’t the only thing that’s changed on the series over the years.

Since the show first made its debut on the BBC in August 2010 with Mary Berry joining Paul as a judge, the series has been filmed in gorgeous settings – which have changed a few times over the past decade.

The show has changed location again for 2022 – but just where is that famous tent?

Here’s what you need to know.

Where is The Great British Bake off filmed?

The 2022 series has returned to the previous location of Welford Park, which is in Newbury, Berkshire.

The park originally housed a monastery before Henry VIII called for their dissolution in 1536. He later used Welford Park as his hunting lodge before giving it to a courtier, Sir Thomas Parry, as a gift.

Other owners include Sir Francis Jones, a 17th Century Lord Mayor Of London, while it was also used as a hospital for distressed soldiers during the First World War.

The current owner, John Puxley, lives there with his wife and two children.

Welford Park was used for filming the series between 2014 and 2019, but the pandemic forced the show to relocate for 2020 and 2021, so that the cast, contestants and production crew could isolate together in a Covid-safe bubble during filming.

Those two series were shot in the grounds of Down Hall, which is Hatfield Heath, Essex – and those involved in filming had to remain at the luxury hotel for six weeks to ensure that nobody got pinged or tested positive.

You can but only at certain times of the year – during snowdrop season.

The park is famous for its snowdrops, which are thought to have been planted by the Norman monks who once lived there.

It will next be open to the public from Wednesday February 1 to Sunday March 5 2023.
