Former TV presenter Sarah Cawood has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 50-year-old, best known for stints on Top Of the Pops and children’s show Live and Kicking, said that it was picked up during her first ever routine mammogram.
After being told she couldn’t have her screening result back yet, and undergoing a further mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy, she started to ‘assume the worst’ before she received her diagnosis.
However, luckily her cancer has been caught at stage one.
‘The surgeon went, “Can you see that? That’s a very small cancerous lump”. And I went, “Oh, OK, is it aggressive?”.
‘And she said, “No”. And I went, “Brilliant”. I was demob happy. I was like, “OK, so easily fixed?”, and she was like, “Yes, not really much of a problem”.

Recalling that after all of her worrying, there were no tears and ‘it wasn’t very dramatic’, the broadcaster’s course of treatment includes a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and the hormone blocker Tamoxifen, which she’ll need to take for five to ten years.
However, Sarah is well aware of her privileged position when it comes to having a cancer diagnosis, which she initially received in August.
She added to The Sun: ‘It really is the Carlsberg of breast cancers. If you have to have it, this is the one to have. I feel really lucky. There are people that really are up s**t creek without a paddle, who have cancer, and I am not that person.
‘They’d give anything to be where I am right now.’
The star also praised her assets as ‘epic’, musing over where her career could have taken her if she’d posed for lags mags in the 1990s.

The ex-presenter said they were ‘honestly the best boobs’, joking that they were ‘better’ than Denise Van Outen’s and she ‘should have got them out’.
Sarah said she was ‘really conflicted’ at the time as she recognised that doing more lads’ mag shoot would have raised her profile and allowed her to vye for bigger TV jobs.
However, she also firmly stated that she had ‘no regrets’.
She had her cancerous lump removed on Wednesday, sharing her progress on her Instagram Stories from hospital.

She had earlier shared: ‘The unwelcome guest in my right boob is being evicted today! Feeling extremely grateful for the NHS today on International Gratitude Day.’
Sarah lives with her husband Andy, a TV producer, and children – Hunter, 10, and nine-year-old Autumn – in Essex and says she no longer works in television having ‘drifted out of fashion’.
She now works as a podcaster, voice over artist and businesswoman.
