Strictly Come Dancing is back tonight (September 24), with the first of the live shows for this year’s competition.
Actors, athletes and anchors make up the star-studded line-up who are all competing for the glory of the Glitter Ball trophy – and the prize money.
Before the competition gets underway tonight, let’s have a quick reminder of who waltzed their way to a win last year…
Who won Strictly 2021?
The victors of Strictly Come Dancing 2021 were EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and her pro partner, Giovanni Pernice.
It was a particularly special win, as Rose is deaf. She had to feel the music to keep in time, and Giovanni explained how the pair had to work ‘three times harder.’

The couple even had a poignant silence during one of their most iconic dances, a tribute to the deaf community which brought viewers to tears.
Rose and Giovanni narrowly beat Bake Off’s John Whaite and his partner Johannes Radebe, who came second.
John and Johannes were the first all-male couple to take part in the series, something being replicated this year as reigning champ Giovanni is paired with radio host Richie Anderson.

Richie has said John and Johannes gave him the confidence to appear on the show with a male partner.
Addressing what representation means to him, Richie said: ‘I was so inspired by watching John and Johannes last year, and Nicola and Katya the year before, I wish as a teenage gay guy, I would have seen that representation on television when I was growing up.
Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight at 6:45pm on BBC One.
