The new and improved series of Married At First Sight (MAFS) UK has already had its fair share of explosive drama, with rows and tears aplenty from the honeymoons to the commitment ceremonies.

A group of 20 new singletons – including four late arrivals – have put their lives on hold for months to throw themselves into this crazy experiment all in the name of finding the One.

They say you can’t put a price on love… or can you?

Find out how much the cast of MAFS UK get paid, and whether they shell out for their own weddings.

Do the Married at First Sight UK contestants get paid?

E4 has not confirmed how much the couples get paid, or if they get paid at all.

However, Jess Power from series six of the Australian version of the show previously revealed all to Metro.co.uk.

The reality TV star, who was married to Mick Gould, explained ‘you’re living off like 150 bucks a day.’

This works out to be around £84 per day.

If you think the experiment lasts around eight weeks, that means stars of the show could end up banking close to $8,500 (around £4,760) for tying the knot on TV and lasting it out until the final commitment ceremony.

However, Jess went on to add that you aren’t allowed to work your day job while on the show, or in the months following it.

Jess told Metro.co.uk: ‘We didn’t earn a lot of money doing the show at all. And you also can’t work until the show finishes airing, and you’ve done all your publicity and that’s like a month.

‘Probably about a six-seven month process [overall].’

Jess said that the cast ‘lost a lot of money being there’.

Nasser Sultan, who appeared in season five of Married at First Sight Australia, confirmed what Jess claims in a seperate interview.

He told nowtolove.com: ‘You get $150 for the day, that’s it.

‘But on top of that, you have to pay expenses – your living expenses with the woman that you marry.’

Is there a prize for staying married?

There is no monetary prize for staying married on the show.

This is unlike other dating shows such as Love Island, where the winning couple takes home £50,000.

The reward you get is priceless – the gift of love.

You could say that’s better than any cash prize.

Do the Married At First Sight contestants pay for their weddings?

Former MAFS UK contestant Clark Sherwood – who appeared on the show back in 2019 – said money was given to them to cover some wedding costs, but didn’t specify an amount.

He told Cosmopolitan: ‘There’s no financial gain from going on the show.

‘There’s budget for things – her wedding dress, a small budget for the suits. There’s some money for hen-do and stag-dos, but it was mainly out of my pocket.

‘I think they put money towards travel or something. But there was genuinely no monetary gain. Lots of people think, “No one would do that for free”, but actually I spent quite a lot of money on the process.’

Do Married at First Sight couples sign prenups?

Prenups are not issued when taking part in Married At First Sight UK because each couple’s marriage isn’t technically real.

They say vows, exchange rings, and have a ceremony, but they aren’t legally married on the show.

Married At First Sight UK airs Mondays to Thursdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
