Alec Baldwin is facing charges over last year’s tragic shooting on the set of Rust, it has been claimed.

The 30 Rock actor was holding a gun on the film set when it misfired last October, fatally shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.

He has always maintained that he wasn’t to blame for the incident, and that he believed that he was holding a cold gun during the rehearsal.

New Mexico’s Board of Finance has now granted more than $317,000 to cover costs for investigating possible prosecutions, indicating that four people could be charged.

According to an emergency request by Santa Fe’s District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, via AP, she asked for the funds to go toward a special prosecutor, special investigator, several experts and other personnel.

The publication reports that the possible charges could range from homicide to violations of state gun statutes.

As many as four people could be charged depending on what investigators find – with Baldwin’s name mentioned.

Carmack-Altweis reportedly added: ‘One of the possible defendants is well known movie actor Alec Baldwin.’

The Hollywood star was pointing a gun at Hutchins while on the movie set on October 21, when it went off.

She was taken to a hospital in New Mexico where she died from her injuries.

A report from the FBI later stated that the weapon’s trigger needed to have been pulled for it to have been discharged.

However, Baldwin – who is fighting a number of lawsuits from the shooting – has insisted that he was not to blame for her death.

Appearing on the Chris Cuomo Project, he said: ‘I know that every single person on the set of the film knows what happened, and the people who are talking loudest about what happened or speculating about what happened were not on the set of the film.’

Naming media outlets, he continued: ‘They talk on and on and on about what if this and what if that and have dined out on this and the thing that they have in common is nobody was there.

‘Everybody who was there, they know exactly what happened. They know exactly who’s to blame.’

Addressing the FBI report, he also said that a bullet could be fired without the trigger being pulled through a process called ‘fanning’.

‘This did not come from me, this came from the DA’s Office themselves,’ he added.

‘If you pull the hammer back, and you don’t lock the hammer; if you pull the hammer back pretty far – in old Western movies you’d see someone fan the hammer of the gun.

‘The hammer didn’t lock. You pulled it back to an extent where it would fire the bullet without you pulling the trigger, without you locking the hammer.’
