Comedian John Oliver has made a dark joke about the late Queen Elizabeth II, commenting that she was now ‘looking up’ at Princess Diana.

Britain’s longest-reigning monarch died in September at the age of 96, sparking a period of mourning in the UK ahead of a massive State funeral.

British comic John lives in the United States, where he is the host of talk show Last Week, and recently voiced his frustration that an episode was censored in the UK.

In the days following Queen Elizabeth’s death, the host made a sarcastic comment about how Britain was ‘reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes.’

When the episode aired on Sky in the UK, the segment had been cut, leading to John calling the decision ‘s****y.’

Now the comedian has spoken out again in the form of a dark joke aimed at the Queen and Princess Diana, who died in 1997.

In a monologue in the newest episode of Last Week, he criticised US President Joe Biden for saying the pandemic was ‘over,’ saying: ‘You can’t just declare something and make it a reality.

‘If I declared “The Queen is alive,” that doesn’t make it true. We all know she’s in the afterlife right now looking up at Diana.’

John, who is originally from Birmingham but gained US citizenship in 2019, had blasted Sky’s censorship while speaking to fellow comedian Seth Meyers, saying the segment that was removed was ‘literally not a joke.’

‘All we said was that Britain is still mourning the shocking loss — right? — of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes. It’s literally not a joke.

‘Scientifically, it’s not a joke. That’s just a fact with a kind of dick-ish inflection, that’s all it is.

‘And yet they cut it out, which is pretty s****y because apparently all we’ve heard all week is the Queen had this incredible sense of humour. Just nonstop.’

In the same episode that was censored, John also poked fun at new UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, joking: ‘The nicest thing the Queen of England ever did for anyone was die the week that woman became Prime Minister.’

He also took aim at the new King, Charles III, saying things were ‘pretty f*****g bleak in the U.K. right now. This f*****g guy is about to be on all the money.’
