Rihanna sent the internet into a frenzy over the weekend when she confirmed that she’ll be headlining the Super Bowl Halftime show next year – and we have every reason to believe new music could be on the way.

Fans of the Umbrella hitmaker have endured quite the drought over recent years, as Rihanna’s last album was Anti in 2016, and she’s only dropped a handful of singles since then.

But fans are speculating that new music could be on the way in time for her Super Bowl gig, which will be her first major performance since the Grammys in 2018.

Rihanna herself is only adding fuel to that fire, having been spotted at a recording studio with boyfriend A$AP Rocky in New York City on Monday (September 26).

The 34-year-old kept it lowkey in a casual tracksuit and baseball cap as she entered the studio, carrying her belongings in an oversized purple Chanel bag.

Meanwhile, A$AP – real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers – also wore printed joggers with a satin khaki bomber jacket.

It’s not known whether Rihanna is the one getting into the booth to work on new tunes, or whether her rapper boyfriend – with whom she welcomed her first child earlier this year – is the one on the mic.

But, with Rih’s Halftime Show approaching, we are cautiously optimistic.

Plus, she did tease new music earlier this year, assuring her fans in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ‘Well, yes. You’re still going to get music from me.’

The Work songstress announced the news that she’ll be performing at the football game with a super casual Instagram post, yanno, as if it’s the most normal thing in the world to be doing.

Rihanna simply posted a pic of her clutching an American football in her tattooed hand, and the post has already received over six million likes.

The Fenty Beauty founder is following in the footsteps of fellow female powerhouses Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Beyoncé to name just a few, who have all performed at the Halftime Show in recent years.

Last year saw Dr Dre, Mary J Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar team up for an epic collaboration, also with a surprise cameo by 50 Cent.

It was widely reported that Taylor Swift would be headlining the 2023 show, but those rumours were shut down when Rihanna made her announcement, which came just days after NFL confirmed that Apple Music has replaced Pepsi as their newest partner for the show.

They said in a statement: ‘We are proud to welcome Apple Music to the NFL family as our new partner for the iconic Super Bowl Halftime Show,’ Nana-Yaw Asamoah, SVP of Partner Strategy for the NFL, said in a statement.

‘We couldn’t think of a more appropriate partner for the world’s most-watched musical performance than Apple Music, a service that entertains, inspires, and motivates millions of people around the world through the intersection of music and technology.’

The show will take place in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12.
