Warning: spoilers ahead for Andor episode 4.
Last week, new Star Wars series Andor had an epic premiere on Disney Plus with the release of its first three episodes, reuniting viewers with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor following his debut in the 2016 film Rogue One.
In episode four, the drama heats up as Cassian embarks on a dangerous mission, while fan-favourite character Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) makes her highly-anticipated return.
In the prequel show set five years before the events of Rogue One, Cassian is yet to become an esteemed Rebel Alliance fighter.
However, the wheels have been set in motion for him to join the growing cause against the Empire, after he crosses paths with covert Rebel Alliance member Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), who’s quickly impressed by his intelligence and skills.
While Cassian has so far evaded Imperial capture, will he remain as lucky in the weeks to come? Here’s what goes down in the latest instalment.
Cassian joins operation to take stand against Empire
After escaping away from the Pre-Mor officers with Luthen, Cassian is given the option to join a deadly mission to fight back against the vicious rule of the Empire.

At first, it seems as though he’s willing to take his chances and head out on his own, despite the huge target that’s been placed on his head.
However, Luthen does well to convince him that it’s worth taking up arms on the operation, telling his young companion: ‘I imagine that no matter what you tell me or tell yourself, you’ll ultimately die fighting these bastards. Wouldn’t you rather give it all at once to something real than carve off useless pieces till there’s nothing left?’
Of course, the promise of a hefty payout definitely sweetens the deal for Cassian, who learns that the mission will involve stealing the quarterly payroll for an entire Imperial sector. No biggie.
Star Wars legend Mon Mothma returns and is ‘under siege’
While Andor features several new characters that fans have already found themselves strongly drawn to, from Bix (Adria Arjona) to Maarva (Fiona Shaw), there are also a number of familiar faces from the Star Wars universe… one of whom appears for the first time in the series in episode four.

The character Mon Mothma made her debut in the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, when she was played by Caroline Blakiston.
The role was taken over by Genevieve in the 2005 movie Revenge of the Sith, with the actress reprising the part in Rogue One and Andor, as well as in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
As a member of the Imperial Senate, Mon Mothma is at high risk in Andor due to her secret involvement as a co-founder of the Rebel Alliance.

While speaking in whispers to Luthen under the guise of buying a present for her husband, Mon Mothma admits that she feels ‘under siege’ by all the watchful eyes from the Empire, while also attempting to convince a resistant Luthen that it’s a good idea to bring another person into the fold.
Star Wars fans were over the moon to see Mon Mothma return in Andor, with one excitable person tweeting: ‘Mon Mothma I love you so much you are perfect and I would take a bullet for you.’
‘She’s perfect in every way. my beloved senator,’ another said.
Disgraced Pre-Mor inspector Syril Karn shuffles back home to mum
When Pre-More inspector Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) ventured on his mission to bring Cassian to justice, he did so without the permission of his superior, who ordered him to make it seem as though the two men who were killed by the protagonist died in an unfortunate accident.

Syril’s attempt to apprehend Cassian went – of course – completely awry, with Cassian fleeing the scene with Luthen and Syril ending up empty handed, while also suffering casualties in his team.
He’s stripped of his duties and left utterly disgraced by his superiors, resulting in him having to saunter back home ashamed to his mother, who slaps him around the face before welcoming him back home with open arms.
Elsewhere in the Empire, Imperial officer Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) has learnt about the Starpath unit that Cassian stole from Steergard, which was under her jurisdiction, and so she’s determined to get the valuable piece of equipment back.
High stakes, high reward mission takes shape
Luthen introduces Cassian to Vel Sartha (Faye Marsay), who’s in charge of the mission to steal the quarterly payroll for an entire Imperial sector… but she’s not at all happy that a stranger has been brought on board with mere days to go until the operation is due to begin, considering it’s already been in the works for a significant amount of time.

In the end, she agrees to let him join – but on the condition that the rest of the team need to be convinced that it was her idea, rather than let on that she had no idea about the change of plans.
After receiving plenty of side eyes from the other members of the team, Cassian learns that he’ll be tasked with flying a box freighter carrying crates of payroll stolen from a vault, escaping through a runway tunnel.
While Cassian warns that this is a ‘suicide run’, the others explain that they’ll be conducting their theft on the day of a sacred celestial event, where multiple meteor showers will create a cover for them in the sky.
But they have a tiny window through which to achieve their mission… so whether they’ll be able to beat the clock and avoid capture – or even death – is yet to be determined.
Andor is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
