Forget glass slippers, Lizzo will go down in history for being the first person ever to play a 200-year-old crystal flute.
During her concert in Washington DC, Lizzo locked lips with a crystal flute from the 1800s and delighted fans with notes that’ll make the history books.
Loaned to her by The Library of Congress, the flute was once owned by founding father, James Madison. Gifted to him by a French crystal flute designer, the instrument was a celebration of his second term.
Sounding it for the first time ever, Lizzo – a classically trained flautist – couldn’t believe her luck and explained the significance of the occasion to fans in the audience.
After playing a few notes, the 34-year-old singer let her excitement burst through and shouted out to the crowd: ‘B****, I just twerked and played James Madison’s flute from the 1800s!’
Sharing the moment on social media, the performer posted a video of her on stage in a sparkling number with the caption: ‘YALL.. THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS LET ME PLAY THEIR HISTORIC 200 YEAR OLD CRYSTAL FLUTE ON STAGE TONIGHT.

‘NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE… NOW YOU DO.’
The video shows her hushing the crowd as she carefully manoeuvres her way around the ancient artefact.
Explaining it was one of the only items to survive a fire, alongside a portrait of George Washington, she started playing and became the first person ever to do so.

Turning to her venue hosts, she thanked them and returned the flute but not before whipping out her signature twerk.
Before moving on from the moment, she reminded everyone to pay more attention to things from the past: ‘Thank you to the Library of Congress for preserving our history and making history cool. History is freaking cool, you guys!’
Lizzo was invited to The Library of Congress’ flute archive to sneak a look at their main attraction and have a go on some of the other instruments there, ahead of her live performance.
The artist is currently on her Special Tour to promote her fourth studio album of the same title. Kicking off last weekend in Florida, it’ll run from now until the end of November.
