Lorraine Kelly has expressed her worries over the new episodes of The Crown as Dominic West makes his debut as King Charles III, fretting over the fact that the actor ‘never plays nice’.
Just a few days ago, a trailer was released for season 5 ahead of its launch in November, teasing the depiction of the breakdown of the marriage between Charles and the late Princess Diana, the latter of whom is being played by Elizabeth Debicki.
The drama will place a spotlight on the affair between Charles and Camilla – portrayed by Olivia Williams – who recently became Queen Consort following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
While speaking on Wednesday’s edition of Lorraine, the host pondered over the ‘worries’ the royal family may have over Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir, as well as the return of The Crown on Netflix.
‘I bet they’re worrying about two things – Harry’s book, but also The Crown’s coming out. And apparently, it’s not good for Prince Cha – King Charles,’ Lorraine said, correcting herself after accidentally calling the King by his former title.
Paul Brand, UK Editor for ITV News, admitted that he’d heard the new season might not be ‘too complimentary’ for King Charles.

‘Weirdly, The Crown has been taking on a life of its own. People think that it’s absolutely factual history. It’s based loosely on history, but a lot of it is sort of made up, they fill in the gaps, don’t they?’ he said.
‘I think particularly in America, people watch The Crown and think, “Oh wow, what a great, historical, factual documentary.” And no it’s not. So I think King Charles will have to worry about the impression that creates of him.’
Lorraine then added that she believes the fact that Dominic is playing the King might also be a factor that’s fuelling their concerns.
‘It’s Dominic West, I mean, he never plays nice. Let’s be honest. He always plays the cad,’ she said.

Earlier this summer, Dominic spoke highly of the royal he’s portraying on screen, telling Deadline: ‘I love the man. He’s a force for good, he really is an extraordinary man.’
He added that season six – which is believed will be the drama’s final outing – will be ‘as tumultuous as it gets’.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
