Overwatch 2 is less than week away, so get ready to say your goodbyes to the original as it’s time to prepare for the dawn of a new era.
To help you jump into Overwatch 2 as quickly as possible Blizzard has released a number of checklists for new and returning players.
As Overwatch 2 will be a free-to-play game, you won’t need to pre-order but simply wait for it to download once it unlocks in games stores.
However, you can still get a head start, by following a few simple steps that will allow you to pre-download the game before it’s out.
When can you pre-download Overwatch 2?
According to Blizzard, the worldwide launch date for Overwatch 2 will be Tuesday, October 4.
However, you’ll be able to pre-download the game from 9:30pm BST on Friday, September 30, if you’re a PC player or if you splurged on the Watchpoint pack. Besides giving you a head start, the Watchpoint pack also comes with some high-tier cosmetics as well as the Season 1 Premium Battle Pass.
If you’re a console player, you’ll still have a few hours to pre-download the game ahead of its official launch time. Pre-download for last and next gen consoles will become available from 5pm BST on October 4 – meaning you’ll have a whole three hours before Overwatch 2 unlocks at 8pm BST.

The download will be around 50GB for existing PC players and Watchpoint pack owners and 30GB for existing console users, so make sure to clear out some space in your games library.
Like the original, Overwatch 2 will be released on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
How do you merge your Overwatch 1 and 2 accounts?
In order to be able to simply press the download or update button when it’s go-time, you need to make sure you’re fully prepared for the transition to Overwatch 2.
As cross-play and cross-progression are coming, Blizzard encourages you to merge your accounts if you have played on multiple platforms. But be careful, as you can only merge one account per platform, meaning that, for example, if you have two different PSN accounts, you can only select one of them.
With cross-progression you’ll be able to keep all your cosmetics and progression from Overwatch 1, so it’d be wise to listen to devs if you don’t want to lose all your precious hero skins and cosmetics.

If you only have an account on one platform, you can skip this step, as all your cosmetics will automatically carry over to Overwatch 2 once the update is done.
On the other hand, if you’ve never played Overwatch before, but you want to jump on the Overwatch 2 hype train as soon as possible, you’ll need to create an account for the game. This means that you’ll need to create a Battle.net account, even if you only plan on playing Overwatch 2 on consoles.
