Paralympic high jumper Jonathan Broom-Edwards has been forced to quit SAS: Who Dares Wins, making the choice to leave in an upcoming episode.

The 34-year-old suffered breaking two of his ribs during the Murderball game challenge on the show, where he was up against Celebrity Big Brother star, and son of footballing legend George Best, Calum Best.

The pair were amongst a brand new batch of celebs taking part this series, including Love Island winner Amber Gill, EastEnders actress Maisie Smith and Strictly Come Dancing’s AJ Pritchard.

The brutal SAS challenge sees the contestants split into teams as they aim to get a tyre into a goal.

However, during the challenge, Calum broke Jonathan’s ribs.

‘I felt so bad. I felt so guilty,’ he said.

‘But then I also went, “It’s the name of the game, it’s bound to happen,”‘ he continued to The Sun.

‘I just don’t like to be somebody that screws somebody else’s experience up.

‘But it’s savage. That’s the thing.’

Calum added to the publication that Jonathan’s injury actually happened ‘out of bounds’, where the contestants are not meant to make contact with each other.

He said: ‘If he got injured from me tackling him in bounds, f**k so be it.

‘But the fact I was called out for doing it out of bounds, I thought, “Oh no, not only have I been called out for not doing it right, he’s got broken ribs.”‘

Jonathan has previously opened up about how one of the earlier challenges left him thinking he was ‘going to die’.

Reflecting on the challenge, Jonathan, who has a clubbed foot and muscular dystrophy, revealed to Metro.co.uk and other publications: ‘The hardest thing, the thing that gave me the most panic, and I felt like I was going to die, was the gassing.

‘I didn’t realise how bad that would be. And it’s definitely the ugliest I think I’ve ever looked in my life. You just don’t know how you’re going to fare.’

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4.
