Stacey Solomon has questioned why we pay any money at all to the monarchy, suggesting there should be an opt-in/opt-out policy instead.
The Loose Women star has made no secret of her confusion over the royal family, having previously stated on the ITV show in 2018 that she didn’t get ‘any of it’.
A clip of Stacey’s comments on Loose Women recently went viral following the Queen’s death on September 8, with her many fans leaping to her defense.
In a new interview, Stacey shared her belief that the country has its priorities wrong and the money going to the royals should be instead going to people in need.
‘I have nothing against the monarchy and the Queen seemed like a lovely lady, but I don’t understand why we pay a contribution to one of the wealthiest families in the world,’ she said.
Speaking about her historic clip, Stacey continued: ‘Some of our kids weren’t even getting school lunches, and to know a huge amount of money is going to somebody who doesn’t need it, I just couldn’t get my head around that.’

The ever-creative Stacey has a solution though. ‘It would be cool if there was an opt-in opt-out version and you can opt to give it to somebody else,’ she added to the Guardian.

In June, it was revealed that the monarchy cost the taxpayer £102million during 2021-22, an increase of 17% from the previous financial year.
Stacey previously said on Loose Women of the royals: ‘I don’t get why we’re so obsessed with these humans that are exactly the same – it could be us four sitting there. I just don’t get it.’
Jane Moore asked: ‘Do you mean, like, as royals, or as like, Kim Kardashian? Because for me, they’re becoming like celebrities.’
‘To me that’s all they are,’ Stacey retorted.

Linda Robson then chipped in: ‘I love the Queen’.
‘But for what?’ Stacey asked, with Jane responding: ‘For duty, for responsibility…’
‘She’s always worked really hard,’ Linda added, as Stacey said: ‘But I would work really hard if the whole country paid for me to have like 12 houses, to work really hard’.
