Jeremy Clarkson didn’t hold back as he branded Liz Truss a Dalek and heaped praise on far-right Italian leader Giorgia Meloni.

He despaired over what he saw as Truss’ ‘wooden’ speech at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, and compared to the ‘rage’ he sees in Meloni’s speeches.

Italy elected its first female prime minister in September in Meloni, who is open about wanting to focus on ‘traditional Christian family values’, prevent abortions, renegotiate EU treaties, lower taxes and ensure same-gender couples do not have surrogacy or adoption rights.

Writing in his Sunday Times column, Clarkson said Meloni wants to introduce ‘fewer laws that favour those of a BLT+ persuasion,’ seemingly referring to the LGBT+ community.

Clarkson sarcastically wrote that people on the left ‘naturally’ think Meloni must be a fascist due to her views on the LGBT+ community, because she wants less immigration, and possibly ‘also eats meat.’

Meloni is the leader of the Brothers of Italy party, rooted in a post-war movement ignited by dictator Benito Mussolini’s fascists.

The former Top Gear star added that he likes ‘the way [Giorgia] boings on to the stage’ and compared her to UK PM Truss, who he said ‘sounded like a Dalek’ when she spoke at the Queen’s funeral.

Clarkson blamed ‘600 stupid old ladies in Bournemouth’ for voting for Truss over Rishi Sunak, which he claimed was ‘simply because they didn’t want an Indian,’ and went on to say that Truss has ‘no right brain at all.’

The right brain is the side of the brain which deals more in mages and creativity than in calculation and logic, which falls on the left brain.

Clarkson – pointing out that he himself is right-brained – said leaders ‘should be right-brained people as they have ‘intition and imagination’ as well as ‘vision.’

Gushing over Meloni, the Clarkson’s Farm star said she might not have experience, may not be well educated and ‘might not know what she’s doing,’ but she ‘sure as hell knows where she’s going.’

He compared her to Truss, who ‘at the time of writing’ had not appeared in public to explain the economic policy ‘that no one seems to like.’

‘She probably has some kind of a speech written and I bet she’s been examining it all week, wondering how the ink adheres to the paper,’ he snarked.

This week Truss appeared on a series of short interviews with local BBC Radio shows which, it’s fair to say, were not the roaring successes she would have been hoping for.

On Sunday the new PM appeared with Laura Kuennsberg and said the controversial decision to slash the top rate of tax for Britain’s wealthiest people had not been discussed at Cabinet, instead pointing the blame at Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng.

Asked if she discussed the controversial move with the whole Cabinet, the Prime Minister told Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg: ‘No, no we didn’t. It was a decision the Chancellor made.’

The move to help the nation’s highest earners – alongside a decision to scrap a cap on bankers’ bonuses – during a cost-of-living crisis, has been widely criticised, including by Tory MPs.
