Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tyler West has completed the London Marathon while also currently competing in the physically demanding celebrity dance show.

The 26-year-old radio DJ is paired with Strictly professional Dianne Buswell this series, who was at the running event cheering her dance partner on.

It’s astounding how Tyler found time to train for the marathon and practise his Strictly routines, but he crossed the finish line this weekend, as well as delivering a spectacular performance for the judges on Saturday night.

There’s no doubt the support from his loved ones will have spurred him on in the annual run through the capital, as 33-year-old Dianne, who has been a Strictly professional since 2017, congratulated Tyler publicly.

She wrote on her Instagram Story, alongside a snap of Tyler at the finish line: ‘@tylerwestt was still on the run from last night’s bank robbery jive! So much so he just ran a marathon!!!’

‘Absolutely amazing, well done partner,’ she declared.

Dianne then shared a photo with her arm around Tyler, who looked proud as bunch but, understandably, exhausted.

She offered him a ‘double congratulations’ since, as well as completing the marathon, he escaped the dance-off in the first Strictly results show.

Kaye Adams and Matt Goss were in the bottom two, but it was Loose Women panellist Kaye and her pro partner Kai Widdrington who were the first to be axed.

During the second live show of the series on Saturday night, Tyler and Dianne – who have dubbed themselves Team TyDi – performed a theatrical routine, dancing the jive to Hit The Road Jack by Buster Poindexter.

The pair started the dance by jumping out of an old-fashioned motor car in the middle of the dancefloor, before using suitcases stuffed with bank notes as props throughout the performance.

Their energetic jive earned the pair a score of 31 and secured Tyler a standing ovation from head judge Shirley Ballas, who praised: ‘You’re the real deal. You bring something you can’t teach.

‘You’ve got an attitude, you’ve got a soul… I flippin’ loved it.’

Less than 24 hours after competing on the dancefloor, the radio host was standing on the start line for the 2022 London Marathon alongside a number of other famous faces, including former Towie star Mark Wright.

Tyler was running the road race in aid of national youth work charity UK Youth, which works to provide opportunities to young people in the UK.

Before beginning the marathon on Sunday, he posted a video to his Instagram, showing his race number and saying: ‘We’re moving to the start line, it’s absolutely crazy.’

In a follow-up post, he showed himself stood next to Dianne and Mark as they prepared to speak to BBC Sports presenter, Gabby Logan.

In his chat with Gabby, Tyler explained why he took on two major commitments at once: ‘I committed to it earlier on in the year and I’m never going to let people down.

‘Dianne will be looking after me anyway, making sure I don’t push myself too far.’

Asked whether she would want to take part in the race, Dianne responded: ‘It’s very tempting but I think I’ll just be on the sidelines and watch for today.’

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday and Sunday on BBC One.
