Strictly Come Dancing star Tyler West is running the London Marathon hours after performing live on the BBC One show on Saturday night (and we couldn’t feel lazier).

The Kiss FM DJ was interviewed ahead of the race starting and was joined by his professional dance partner Dianne Buswell, who will be keeping a watchful eye as he plows through the 26.2-mile challenge through the capital.

Speaking to presenter Gabby Logan about why he signed up to take part while also competition on Strictly, Tyler explained: ‘I committed to it earlier on in the year and I’m never going to let people down.

‘Dianne will be looking after me anyway, making sure I don’t push myself too far.’

‘It’s been your training for the week hasn’t it, to do this today,’ Dianne added, loosely hinting that Tyler has made it through to next week.

Asked whether she would want to take part in the race, Dianne responded: ‘It’s very tempting but I think I’ll just be on the sidelines and watch for today.’

Tyler is running for UK Youth, a leading charity with a vision that all young people are equipped to thrive and empowered to contribute at every stage of their lives.

His participation in the London Marathon follows his theatrical jive to Hit The Road Jack by Buster Poindexter on Saturday’s show.

He received an impressive score of 31 for his performance, with head judge Shirley Ballas on her feet after the routine.

‘You’re the real deal,’ she said as she applauded him. ‘You bring something you can’t teach.’

Craig Revel Horwood was equally as impressed, and added: ‘Great routine, jam-packed full of storytelling.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
