Sir Ringo Starr has pulled out of his upcoming US tour shows after testing positive for Covid.

The Beatles icon initially cancelled performances in Michigan and Minnesota after a mystery illness affected his voice.

It has now been revealed that Starr, 82, will not be able to fulfill the rest of his upcoming across North America with the five scheduled performances now scrapped for the time being.

A statement said: ‘Ringo hopes to resume as soon as possible and is recovering at home. As always, he and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans, and hope to see them back out on the road soon.’

Starr’s team had previously insisted he did not have Covid over the weekend, but did not disclose what his illness was.

The British drummer was due to perform at the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, Michigan on Saturday but the show was pulled when Starr began struggling with his voice, as well as a performance at the Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minnesota on Sunday.

Until he fell ill, Starr was enjoying performing across the country with his band and tweeted after a performance on September 27: ‘Wow what a great night thank you Montreal first gig in Canada. Peace and love.’
