House of the Dragon episode 8 trailer teases dark turn for King Viserys-Robert Oliver-Entertainment – Metro

*Warning: Contains spoilers for House of the Dragon.*

House of the Dragon’s seventh episode was arguably its most explosive yet, and the trailer for episode eight has teased that things might only get darker.

Last night, Aemond (Leo Ashton) lost an eye but claimed a dragon, while Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) came to blows in the aftermath.

And in a stunning twist – one that made a huge departure from the books – Laenor Velaryon (John MacMillan) faked his own death to escape with his lover.

It’s an adaptive decision by House of the Dragon’s writers that has book fans absolutely thrilled and show-only fans completely shocked.

And now, as the drama has reached boiling point, it appears that next week won’t be slowing things down for the Greens or the Blacks.

Let’s take a look at how the next episode, entitled The Lord of the Tides, will carry on the mayhem.

Let’s do the time jump again

One more time jump. That’s all we have left.

Viewers will no doubt be pleased to know that, while there is a time jump of roughly two or three years before the next episode, it is the last one of the season.

Fans have commented on how the leaps forward through time have left them feeling less connected to the story than they might have been otherwise.

In a series of shots, we’re shown that Alicent and Rhaenyra’s children (Aegon, Aemond, Helaena, Luke, Jace, and Joffrey) have grown up a little more. Aemond now sports an eye patch after his blade-related mishap, while the actors who will play the Green and Black kids assume their roles for the first time.

In comes Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon), Ewan Mitchell (Aemond), and Phia Saban (Helaena) on the Green side, and in the Black corner, we have Elliot Grihault (Lucerys) and Harry Collet (Jacaerys).

King Viserys is on death’s door

We thought we’d seen the last of King Viserys (Paddy Considine) when he collapsed after Rhaenyra’s wedding to Laenor, but he somehow survived the 10-year time jump.

This week, he called Alicent ‘Aemma’ and even his brother Daemon (Matt Smith) made a cruel jibe about his appearance.

It appears that he has once again somehow managed to survive for yet another couple of years, but things definitely don’t look good.

For starters, Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) sits on the Iron Throne in his stead and says: ‘As Hand, I speak with the king’s voice on this and all other matters.’

So, while King Viserys may still be alive, his ability to rule has clearly been significantly hampered. We finally hear him speak midway through the trailer (‘The crown cannot stand strong if the house of the dragon remains divided’) but his voice sounds awfully weak.

We are then teased with a shot of Viserys beginning to walk through two gates, but the camera cuts away before we see what he looks like now.

Daemon vs. Ser Criston: The Rematch?

Ser Criston has a target in his sights, but who is it? (Picture: HBO)

It appears that Daemon Targaryen can’t get enough of King’s Landing. He started the show in Westeros’ capital, then left for Dragonstone. He then returned to show Princess Rhaenyra a night on the town, before being exiled again. He came back to the Red Keep a third time for Rhaenyra and Laenor’s wedding.

He’s spent the last decade travelling the world with his now-dead wife, Laena (Nanna Blondell), and was at Driftmark for her funeral – however funny he might have found it.

After marrying his niece Rhaenyra at the end of episode seven, the pair are shown returning to King’s Landing in episode eight.

Once there, it seems he’ll come face to face with Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) again. We last saw them face off in a jousting match in the House of the Dragon premiere, when Ser Criston knocked Daemon from his horse and then beat him comfortably in single-hand combat.

Observing the footage a little closer, it appears it could be Aemond or Aegon, given the green outfit that the currently unknown Targaryen is wearing.
