Despite the nation pleading for him to step into government, Martin Lewis further emphasised how much he doesn’t want to be Prime Minister.
On Sunday, Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng made an astonishing U-turn on the controversial plans to slash the top rate of tax for Britain’s highest earners.
Yesterday, PM Liz Truss declared herself ‘absolutely committed’ to slashing the rate from 45% to 40%, after it was slated by opposition parties and her own MPs.
During Monday’s Good Morning Britain, co-host Susanna Reid reminded the Money Savings founder how he ‘topped the polls’ to be the next PM.
‘So arguably you could say that makes me the most unpopular person in Britain,’ Martin joked.
‘Anyone who would try and give that job to someone, surely what a poison chalice it would be.’

Referring to his recent tweet, Martin continued: ‘I’m not sure I’m allowed to say on here what I’ve said on social media.
‘I said I would rather have my nipples wired to electrodes and not in a good way than become Prime Minister, shall we move on?’
The financial journalist, 50, has been hailed a national treasure as he continuously offers his expertise on money management and advice on weathering the issues caused by the cost of living crisis and rising energy bills.
During Monday’s installment of the morning programme, Martin also encouraged first time buyers to think wisely before buying a house.

He said: ‘If you’ve got a decent deposit and you’ve found a house that you love, and you’ve got a mortgage that is affordable for you, and you’re going to stay in that property for a long time, get on with it. Buy your house.’
‘If you’re doing this because “this isn’t the house I want but I feel I should do it now before everything goes wrong and it all goes belly up”… don’t buy your house.
‘We’re working with so many variables, there are no firm right answers.’
Good Morning Britains airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
