The Walking Dead’s last ever batch of episodes began last night, and viewers were treated to a brand new title sequence to mark the occasion.

The series, which has been on the air since 2010, will come to an end in November, but it won’t be over forever as the universe is set to expand with new spin-offs.

The show’s title sequence has changed ever so slightly over the years, with a gradually decaying logo greeting viewers across the first eight seasons.

Season nine saw the introduction of a new intro when new showrunner Angela Kang packed it full of references and little clues about the series.

Season 10 introduced fire and flames to the logo, and now season 11 has added a drip of blood to spice things up.

As if eagle-eyed fans weren’t already excited for this last group of episodes, this new extended sequence has only made their anticipation more intense.

In the new titles, a huge horde of walkers surrounds the living characters’ community, defended by the Commonwealth military.

A lone soldier wearing red armour, General Mercer (Michael James Shaw), is also seen trying to fight off the oncoming swarm.

The extended sequence has also made some big changes to the names that appear in the opening credits – specifically those who are now series regulars.

New names include actresses Eleanor Matsuura (who plays Yumiko), Lauren Ridloff (who plays Connie), and Cailey Fleming (who plays Judith).

Fans who have been paying attention to the show’s ever-changing theme sequence are thrilled, having already spotted the latest updates.

‘The extended intro is so good. Having different locations and more cast names. Plus the extended music part near the end, makes it sound very like it is nearly all over,’ one fan commented.

Another said, ‘I really love this new intro’, while other fans were buzzing to see the future changes which are still yet to be seen.

One fan theorised that the bloodstain on the logo will become increasingly larger with each passing episode until the full logo is red by the finale.

Earlier today, a teaser trailer for The Walking Dead’s upcoming spin-off series, including Rick & Michonne, was broadcast.

The Walking Dead is available to stream on Disney Plus.
