Line of Duty stalwart Adrian Dunbar ripped into the ‘shoddy’ Conservative government during an appearance on Tuesday’s Good Morning, while also calling for a General Election.

Nearly half a million people have signed a petition demanding an early General Election in the wake of Liz Truss’ tumultuous time in office, which recently saw her U-turn on the controversial plans to slash the top rate of tax for Britain’s highest earners.

Joining Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on the ITV programme, Dunbar revealed that he also sides with those demanding action.

When asked if there should be a new Election, Adrian responded: ‘As soon as possible yep.

‘I think there’s a paucity of leadership in the country at the moment and I think they’re a shoddy bunch of people, and we should get rid of them.’

Don’t hold back, Dunbar.

But he’s not alone as even former culture secretary Nadine Dorries has said Ms Truss should call for a General Election.

Ms Dorries, who backed Ms Truss in the leadership election, tweeted today that there was ‘widespread dismay’ at the prime minister for scrapping key parts of Mr Johnson’s agenda.

‘Three years of work’ had effectively been put on hold, Ms Dorries said.

She added: ‘No one asked for this. C4 [Channel 4] sale, online safety, BBC licence fee review, all signed off by cabinet all ready to go, all stopped.’

‘If Liz wants a whole new mandate, she must take to the country.’

Elsewhere during his appearance on GMB, Dunbar spoke about his Line of Duty character of Ted Hastings using social media to speak on politics previously

‘I mean satire, where would we be without it?’ he asked.

‘We don’t have it anymore. It would be nice if Spitting Image was back, that would be a good idea wouldn’t it?’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
