Loose Women’s Denise Welch has admitted she wishes former Prime Minister Boris Johnson ‘hadn’t gone’.

Boris Johnson’s reign as Prime Minister came to an end last month, with Liz Truss being announced as the new Tory leader.

Truss, who praised ‘friend’ Mr Johnson in her acceptance speech, received 81,326 votes from the Conservative Party membership – compared to Rishi Sunak’s 60,399.

However, amid the spiralling cost of living crisis and rising mortgage rates, Denise admitted being left ‘politically homeless,’ despite having been a Labour voter ‘all her life’.

‘I am really politically homeless,’ Denise shared.

‘I really don’t know where to go anymore, and at this present time, I would probably vote Labour because we have to have some fresh blood in there.

‘But I wouldn’t trust the opposition particularly.’

Denise continued: ‘I really don’t know, I’m actually wishing from a Conservative point of view that Boris hadn’t gone, and I never thought I’d say that.

‘I think we’re in a worse mess than when Boris was in.’

The Loose Women have previously clashed over Boris Johnson, after he left his role as Prime Minister.

Reacting to the news, Linda Robson asked the panel what they made of the Etonian, and to say opinions differed would be an understatement.

‘That was the beginning of the end for him. He wasn’t open… a lot of people lost trust in him. That’s the legacy he’s leaving with me unfortunately.’

Linda, a constant vocal supporter of the former Prime Minister, said she thinks politicians ‘all lie’ but ‘start off with good intentions.’

‘I’ve always been a big fan of Boris because he lived in Islington and I used to see him all the time,’ Linda told the panel for what is definitely not the first time.

‘You can’t like people just because they lived in Islington!’ Janet jumped in, with Linda insisting: ‘He was a nice man!

‘He used to stop and chat with everyone, you used to see him down the market with his cup of tea and with the dog and that,’ Linda argued, if you can call that an argument.

‘He did loads of good things as well,’ she said. ‘Like Covid. No other Prime Minister had to go through what he had to go through,’ before listing off what she believed were the former PM’s achievements, which he regularly lists himself: ‘Brexit, vaccines, supplying arms to Ukraine and ‘being best mates with gorgeous Zelensky.’

‘And he gave us some laughs on the way too, unlike you Janet,’ Linda said in a final dig.

However, seconds later Janet did get some laughs, as she went through the ex Tory leader’s goodbye speech and fact-checked it, saying: ‘He said neighbourhood crime is down 30% in the last three years.’

‘That’s because we were locked down! We were at home! Criminals couldn’t get out and commit crime!’ she declared as the live audience laughed, before she went on to point out his claim he gave Britain almost 14,000 new police, and added: ‘Well they actually promised us 20,000 more police, so they failed on that.’

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
