A mural depicting The Simpsons character Marge Simpson chopping off her hair in solidarity with protesters in Iran has appeared in Milan.
Anti-government demonstrations have engulfed the Middle Eastern country over the past few days following the death of a young woman who had been in the custody of its ‘morality police.’
Mahsa Amini, 22, died after being arrested in Tehran for allegedly violating Iran’s strict hijab law, which requires women to cover their hair and wear loose-fitting robes.
Activists claim Amini was beaten by police while being taken to a detention facility in a van causing serious injuries that led her to slip into a coma and die.
Protests, which have amounted to a national outpouring of grief and anger at Amini’s death, have seen women set fire to their hijabs and cut off their hair across dozens of Iranian cities.
Demonstrations in other countries, including Turkey and Lebanon, have also been sparked, while Oscar-winning French actresses Juliette Binoche, Marion Cotillard have shared videos of themselves chopping off their hair.
The latest show of support for the protestors has taken place in Italy, with an artist named AleXsandro Palombo painting a mural on a Milanese street.

The painting, which is in front of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, shows Marge Simpson holding a pair of scissors in one hand, while the other is clutching her blue hair.
AleXsandro said: ‘The mural against the Tehran regime portrays Marge Simpson cutting her iconic hairstyle to celebrate the courage of Iranian women and to pay tribute to Mahsa Amini beaten to death by the morality police for failing to properly wear the hijab that let out a lock of hair.

‘If Marge Simpson is banned from entering Iran, nothing prevents her from expressing her dissent to the regime in front of the Iranian consulate, here we live in democracy, that universal value of the right to freedom for which the brave Iranian people fight at the cost of their lives.’
Other celebrities to have spoken out amid the ongoing protests include Angelina Jolie, who took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a series of images from the streets of Iran in tribute to the ‘brave’ women of the country.

She wrote to her 13.7 million followers: ‘Respect to the brave, defiant, fearless women of Iran. All those who have survived and resisted for decades, those taking to the streets today, and Mahsa Amini and all young Iranians like her.
‘Women don’t need their morals policed, their minds re-educated, or their bodies controlled. They need freedom to live and breathe without violence or threats.
‘To the women of Iran, we see you #WomanLifeFreedom #MahsaAmini.’
