Shirley Ballas has revealed she was ‘absolutely mortified’ that her fellow Strictly Come Dancing judges voted to send Kaye Adams home first.

The Loose Women panelist was paired up with professional dancer Kai Widdrington in the BBC’s juggernaut show, competing against other stars such as Helen Skelton and Ellie Taylor.

For the first live show the 59-year-old and Kai performed the Tango to Voulez-Vous by Abba and followed up with the Charleston to Music! Music! Music!.

However, after scoring 43 points out of a possible eight for both weeks, Kai and Kaye found themselves in the dreaded dance-off with Matt Goss and Nadiya Bychkova.

After dancing the Samba to Night Fever by the Bee Gee, the Bros star was saved by the judges Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood.

However, on the night, Shirley revealed she would’ve opted for Kaye and Kai due to ‘a little better quality’ of performance.

Reflecting on the first elimination on Wednesday’s The One Show, Shirley shared her regret the couple had been booted of the dancing competition series.

Shirley explained: ‘I just felt on the evening both couples made mistakes but the quality of Kaye was by far superior on that evening, and I was absolutely mortified that she left to be quite honest.

‘I love my fellow judges, and we’re all there to do a job, but that was one they didn’t quite get right.’

When asked if she and fellow judges come to blows over disagreements on the panel, Shirley replied: ‘No, not at all.

‘You know sometimes I’m just delighted when they can agree and it’s not my job to send somebody home.

‘But [Kaye] was, and had, the most beautiful movement. She was fluid and I like fluidity. So there you go.’

Since leaving the show, Kaye has shared a hilarious encounter with a hotel waitress on Twitter.

Hours after the results show aired, the ITV host wrote: ‘Just ordered room service in my hotel. ‘The nice lady who brought it asked me ‘any idea who went out of @bbcstrictly tonight.?’ I said ‘me’. awkward silence.’

The One Show continues tomorrow at 7pm on BBC One.
