Christian Bale has revealed he had to avoid Chris Rock on the set of Amsterdam for a bizarre reason – he found him too funny.

Hollywood icon Bale, 48, is well known for his dedication to his onscreen roles and utmost professionalism on set.

However, it turns out the comedy stylings of Rock, 57, were just too much for the straight-faced actor, who had to avoid him on the set of comedy drama Amsterdam.

Batman star Bale said he told Rock he loved his stand-up when the pair worked together on Amsterdam.

‘I went to do a scene, and I went, “Oh, my God. I’m just Christian, standing here, being a fan of Chris Rock,”‘ he told GQ in their upcoming November issue.

‘I went, “Mate, I got to keep my distance”. Have you tried swimming and laughing at the same time? I don’t know about you. I’d drown. I cannot laugh and swim at the same time.’

In the same interview, he went on to say any role he – and every other Hollywood actor – gets is because Leonardo DiCaprio turns it down first.

‘Oh, dude. It’s not just me. Look, to this day, any role that anybody gets, it’s only because he’s passed on it beforehand. It doesn’t matter what anyone tells you,’ he said.

‘It doesn’t matter how friendly you are with the directors. All those people that I’ve worked with multiple times, they all offered every one of those roles to him first. Right? I had one of those people actually tell me that. So, thank you, Leo, because literally, he gets to choose everything he does. And good for him, he’s phenomenal.’

Bale and Rock star in Amsterdam alongside an all-star cast that includes Margot Robbie, Robert De Niro, Taylor Swift, John David Washington, Rami Malek, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, and Mike Myers.

Set in the 1930s, it follows three friends who witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.

The November issue of British GQ is available via digital download and on newsstands on October 25.

Amsterdam will be released in UK cinemas on October 7.
