RuPaul’s Drag Race UK fans couldn’t believe what they were witnessing on tonight’s episode, when the lip sync song was revealed to be a track by Ella Henderson.
Several astounded viewers pointed out the ‘inopportune timing’ of the performance, considering the singer recently became embroiled in controversy after performing at a Conservative Party conference.
On episode three of Drag Race UK season four, Black Peppa and Copper Topp ended up in the bottom two for the week, meaning they had to lip sync to try and convince head judge RuPaul to keep them in the competition.
The pair took their places on stage as This Is Real, a song performed by Jax Jones and Ella Henderson, played in the background.
This week, fans of the former X Factor star expressed their disbelief over the fact that she was filmed performing at a conference for the Tory party, weeks after performing at Brighton Pride.
Her performance had been at a fringe event at the conference put on by TikTok and UK Music, with a spokesperson for TikTok explaining to Metro.co.uk that she performed as a guest of the companies, ‘following a similar event at the Labour Party Conference the week before’.

However, she had to pull out of the Labour Party Conference due to illness, as they added that ‘these events do not indicate political affiliation and are held to highlight the importance of the UK’s music sector and the success of our talent on a global stage’.
Despite the explanation provided for Ella’s appearance at the event, several Drag Race UK fans found the fact that her song was used in the lip sync shortly after the Tory conference controversy ‘awkward’.
‘The coincidental timing of the Ella Henderson lip sync given what’s happening now is amazing,’ one person tweeted, while another wrote: ‘Not an Ella Henderson song after the scandal.’
‘This is inopportune timing for an Ella Henderson lip sync,’ another individual said, as someone else chimed in to add: ‘Oh this is unfortunate after this week.’
Ella has yet to speak out on social media following the spotlight fixated on her performance at the conference.
Following the lip sync, RuPaul announced that Copper Topp would be going home, meaning that Black Peppa was safe to slay another day in the competition.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK returns next Thursday at 9pm on BBC Three.
