Brian Cox was overcome with anger while discussing Prime Minister Liz Truss on Question Time, slamming his hands on the table as he condemned ‘mistakes’ being made by the Tory leader.
On Thursday’s episode of the BBC One programme, Fiona Bruce welcomed the Succession star alongside TalkTV presenter Piers Morgan, former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi, Labour MP Lisa Nandy and businessman Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones.
At one point during the panel’s discussion, one of the members of the audience emphasised that Ms Truss wasn’t elected by the nation but instead by a small group of people, after winning the Conservative party leadership race, and so she doesn’t have the ‘mandate to represent us all’.
The audience member then brought up a topic of conversation from the evening about ‘making mistakes’, as they stressed that in certain professions, such as for a pilot, a surgeon or a prime minister, their responsibilities mean that they cannot make mistakes.
While Mr Cox clapped at this point, saying ‘absolutely’, Mr Emmanuel-Jones said that he found it ‘ridiculous’ to expect anyone to never make any blunders and ‘impossible to say someone can’t make mistakes’.
However, the Scottish actor strongly disagreed, responding: ‘Wilfred, can I just say, we’re not at a time where we can afford these kinds of mistakes.
He continued, becoming increasingly passionate as he stated: ‘We’re at a very crucial position. We simply can’t afford these kinds of mistakes. And they’re being made time and time again. And it’s got to stop.’
Mr Cox slammed his hands on the table to emphasise his point, with several Question Time viewers praising him for his strong views.

‘Loving the anger and passion on Brian Cox,’ one person tweeted, while another wrote: ‘Well said Brian Cox, I’ve waited years for somebody to display this kind of passion, and every word is true!’
‘Brian Cox in fine form again tonight,’ someone else commented.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Ms Truss may have been given 10 days to save her leadership amid questions from within the Conservative party.
Following a speech made by the PM at the Tory conference this week, the pound dropped once again, as she emphasised that the government was making ‘difficult but necessary’ choices to stimulate economic growth.
Question Time airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
