From the creator of Midnight Mass and Haunting of Hill House, Mike Flanagan’s new spooky series has launched on Netflix, just in time for Halloween.
Following a group of terminally ill teens as they battle with death and existence, The Midnight Club features several ghost stories each character shares.
The eight teens are not only trying to scare each other with gruesome horror stories as a way of coping with their own deaths, but they’ve also made a pact to try and communicate with each other after death, haunting the halls of Brightcliffe, as they hunt for signs of the supernatural from the beyond.
As they spot ghostly sightings and eery apparitions, and battle their own existence, each night the eight members of the Midnight Club come together to share their stories.

The Midnight Club gets its name from Christopher Pike’s 1994 novel, but each episode is titled by another one of his works, following the story each character tells the group.
These include: The Wicked Heart, Gimme a Kiss, Witch, See You Later, Road to Nowhere and The Eternal Enemy.
Flanagan previously shared that he is a big fan of Pike’s thrillers, and reached out to him about adapting his work.

Netflix’s The Midnight Club echoes the premise of Pike’s novel, following the story about young people who are dying, who meet each night to tell each other stories.
Those stories are then adapted by Pike’s other works, which feed into each character’s own arc.

Christopher Pike is a best-selling author who has written several thriller and horror novels, including many of those featured in The Midnight Club Netflix series.
He also serves as an executive producer on the show, and worked with Flanagan to choose which stories were going to be told.
Speaking about The Midnight Club, Pike revealed that his book was created after a request from a young girl who was being treated in hospital for cancer.

He ended up writing his story in honour of her, and even created the character Spencer based on one of the patients.
As for the other stories included, Pike and Flanagan chose each book to include in the show based on what ‘felt most appropriate’.
The Midnight Club lands on Netflix tomorrow, Friday October 7.
