Margot Robbie has revealed she once sent the director of new film Amsterdam to sleep as she delivered her lines.

The acclaimed actress, 32, has some major films under her belt, from The Suicide Squad to The Wolf of Wall Street.

And there’s even bigger things to come in future with the world anxiously awaiting her outing as Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming flick inspired by the Mattel doll.

Right now, Margot is celebrating the release of newest film Amsterdam, in which she appears alongside the likes of Rami Malek, John David Washington and Christian Bale.

The period mystery comedy is directed, produced and written by David O Rusell – who Margot once sent to sleep as she practised her lines with him.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1’s Ali Plumb ahead of the upcoming film, she explained David told her to read her lines although she ‘just took three Xanax’ – and she complied.

She explained: ‘One day, he made me come in to read like 40 pages of dialogue. I start to read and he says “No no no, more calm, more relaxed”.

‘So I did it again…and he was like “No, no no. I want you to read it like you just took 3 Xanax.’

Professional actress as she is, Margot took David’s direction to heart – and after a few minutes noticed his head nodding as though he was falling asleep.

‘I thought to myself, “I’m literally putting him to sleep!”‘ Margot laughed.

‘So I stop and ask him if he wants me to put more energy into it. And he goes “No! You’re doing it perfectly.”

‘And so I did the whole thing until he was fully asleep and snoring!’

The Australian actress added that David ‘refused to give in and say he’d fallen asleep,’ but Margot teased him that they had the entire thing on camera, ‘so let’s play it back and see if you were snoring!’

The film enjoyed a massive world premiere in New York City last month, followed by a second premiere in London (Picture: Getty Images)

The film boasts a star-studded cast along with a cameo from icon Taylor Swift (Picture: 20th Century Studios)

Amsterdam, set in the 1930s, follows three friends – a doctor, a nurse, and a lawyer – who become the prime suspects in a murder.

Along with its star-studded cast, it also includes a cameo from none other than Grammy-winning musician Taylor Swift.

The stars of the show recently went all-out for the world premiere of the film in New York City, with DC star Margot a vision in white, wearing a layered lace strapless gown.
