The casting has been announced for Uncle Fester in Tim Burton’s upcoming Addams Family spin-off series Wednesday, with Fred Armisen set to play the role.
Ever since The Addams Family first appeared in The New Yorker magazine in the 1930s, there have been several depictions of the eerie family, one of the most beloved of which saw Anjelica Huston star as Morticia Addams and Christina Ricci as her daughter Wednesday in the 1990s films.
Now Beetlejuice filmmaker Burton is embarking on a project placing Wednesday front and centre, with Jenna Ortega playing the titular character.
The newly-cast Uncle Fester is typically depicted as being bald with a hunched back and dark, sunken eyes.
The live-action show, which is set to premiere on Wednesday November 23 this year, will star Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, and will also see Ricci make a special appearance.
The supernatural comedy follows Wednesday as she enrols as a high school student at Nevermore Academy, where the dark-humoured teenager is told she might finally fit in with her classmates.

In the trailer for the show, it’s revealed that Wednesday has been to eight schools in the past five years.
One scene appears to show a throwback memory to a school that she was expelled from, when she encountered a group of boys in the swimming pool who had been targeting her brother with their bullying antics.
She releases a shoal of nipping piranhas into the water, much to the swimmers’ horror.

During her journey to Nevermore with Morticia and Gomez, is promised that the school is a ‘magical place’, where her parents met.
‘Finally you will be among peers who understand you,’ she’s told, before meeting principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie).
However, there’s more to the school than meets the eye, as Wednesday says: ‘Little did I know I’d be stepping into a nightmare full of mystery, mayhem and murder.’
The series is described as a coming-of-age story, where Wednesday will attempt to harness her psychic powers.
At the same time, she has to step in to stop a killing spree in the town from going any further, while also striving to solve a mystery that impacted her family a quarter of a century ago.
Wednesday is set to premiere on Wednesday November 23 on Netflix.
