Girls Aloud star Cheryl was joined by her ex Liam Payne as she reunited with her bandmates to honour the late Sarah Harding.

The pop star accompanied Kimberley WalshNadine Coyle, and Nicola Roberts for the Primrose Ball in London on Saturday evening, set up to raise vital funds for cancer treatment.

Harding died in September last year aged 39, after being diagnosed with breast cancer and confirming in August 2020 that the disease had spread to other parts of her body.

One of her last wishes was to hold a fundraising event to help others, hoping she would be able to attend herself to thank those who have supported her.

Sadly, she died eight weeks after telling her bandmates of those plans, so the remaining members of the successful girl group organised the ball to raise money for the Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Cancer Research UK as part of the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal.

Hosted by Fearne Cotton, former One Direction star Liam was on hand to support his ex-girlfriend and the other Girls Aloud members.

Liam cut a dapper figure in a black suit and tie, which he wore with his glasses.

Meanwhile, Cheryl donned a chic black gown, adding a pop of colour with a hot pink clutch bag.

Cheryl and Liam have remained on good terms despite parting ways in 2018, as they also share a son, five-year-old Bear.

The former couple were together for over two years, but reports at the time of their break-up said they were simply in ‘different stages of their lives’ and decided it was ‘best for everyone’ if they went their separate ways.

While Cheryl has remained largely out of the limelight since becoming a mother, Liam has continued with his music career and has had only good things to say about her in the press.

He previously hailed Cheryl the ‘best mum in the world,’ adding: ‘I couldn’t ask for someone better. He is all she cares about and I couldn’t ask for more.’

Cheryl also spoke of their friendship to The Sun in 2019, saying: ‘I’m actually really happy that we can be the way we are. We love and care about each other a lot.

And we share a child, it’s really important that we’re able to have a very healthy, good relationship.’

It’s not thought that the pair left Harding’s charity ball together, although Cheryl was seen smiling as she got into her car to head home, after a successful, yet undoubtedly emotional, night.

The 2000s girl group did not perform together at the ball, previously admitting it ‘wouldn’t feel right’ so soon after Harding’s death.

Liverpool-born Nicola did sing, however, delivering a passionate performance, while Cheryl was photographed giving a speech at the podium.

As well as hosting the ball to raise money for cancer treatment, the Girls Aloud ladies recently teamed up with Primark for a range of pyjamas, posing in the photoshoot for the first time as a four.

Writing on Instagram, Cheryl said: ‘Before Sarah passed away, we promised her we would fulfil her wish of raising money for vital research to help determine young women between the ages of 29 and 40 who could be at risk of breast cancer with no genetic history. These pyjamas with @primark will raise a significant amount of money to help us achieve our promise to her.’

She added that all of the proceeds raised from sales would be split equally between The Christie Charitable Trust and Cancer Research UK.
