Selena Gomez speaks candidly about her mental health struggles in the first full-length trailer for her new documentary on living with anxiety and depression, as well as bipolar disorder.

The former Disney star, 30, has enjoyed massive success in the entertainment industry since she was young, and like many child stars, struggled with the immense pressure that came along with it.

She landed her first major part at just seven years old with Barney and Friends, going on to star in her own Disney show, Wizards of Waverly Place, as well as multiple starring roles on the big screen.

The former teen icon also enjoyed a massively successful music career, however it meant her personal life was constantly under scrutiny which did not help her mental health.

Now Selena is preparing to release a new documentary exploring her struggles and how she has overcome multiple health battles, with Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me hitting Apple TV+ next month.

A newly-released trailer for the documentary sees the Only Murders In The Building star send out a hopeful message as she overcomes her darkest moments, announcing: ‘I am grateful to be alive.’

She goes on to say that she is working on being okay with who she is and where she is in life, as she declares: ‘Let me make a promise. I am going to stop living like this.’

Voiceovers from multiple news reports over the years can also be heard in the trailer, announcing that Selena has been diagnosed with lupus, depression, anxiety and had suffered a mental breakdown.

Lupus is an incurable but treatable long-term condition that can cause joint pain and fatigue, and in 2017 Selena required a kidney transplant for the condition which she received from her best friend Francia Raisa.

Selena’s fatigue and mental anguish can be seen in the trailer as she breaks down in tears to her friends.

A crying Selena admits: ‘My whole life since I was a kid I’ve been working,’ adding on that she often felt like she wasn’t ‘good enough’ when she was growing up.

She goes on: ‘And I don’t want to be, like, super famous, but I do know that if I’m here I have to use that for good.’

As the trailer continues, Selena can be heard singing: ‘My mind and me, we don’t get along sometimes.’

It ends on a positive note, with a voiceover from Selena declaring: ‘I’m happier and more in control of my emotions and thoughts than I have ever been.’

The official synopsis for the documentary reads: ‘After years in the limelight, Selena Gomez achieves unimaginable stardom. But just as she reaches a new peak, an unexpected turn pulls her into darkness.

‘This uniquely raw and intimate documentary spans her six-year journey into a new light.’

Selena herself had long been the target of online trolls, particularly during her on-off relationship with Justin Bieber.

Justin’s wife, Hailey Bieber, recently spoke in an interview about her relationship with Justin and how she was accused of ‘stealing’ him from Selena – which she denied.

Shorly after the interview, Selena took to TikTok to warn her fans against sending bullying messages, though she did not name Hailey or address the interview explicitly.

‘Some of the things that I don’t even need to be aware of are just vile and disgusting,’ she said.

‘It’s not fair because no one ever should be spoken to in the manner that I’ve seen.’

Selena, whose Rare makeup line includes lipstick and lip liners called Kind Words, went on: ‘All I have to say is it’s incredibly ironic that I would release something that is all about kind words ’cause that’s exactly what I want. That’s it.
