Obsidian appears to have acknowledged a Fallout: New Vegas 2, but only to say that it’s not in the works since the studio is too busy.

With both Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment now under Microsoft, there has been speculation that Obsidian could get another opportunity to work with Bethesda’s Fallout series. Namely, on a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas.

Earlier this year, one insider even claimed that Microsoft was speaking with Obsidian about such a project.

Unfortunately, it seems Obsidian itself has ruled it out, at least for the time being, since it’s preoccupied with other projects.

Recently, Bethesda celebrated the Fallout series’ 25th anniversary with a retrospective video.

Obsidian’s Twitter account shared the video with its own celebration message. While it doesn’t mention Fallout: New Vegas 2 by name, however, it very much seems to allude to it and denies that it’s working on the sequel right now.

‘Happy 25th anniversary to the original Fallout! A franchise whose roots helped form us and a world we truly love,’ the message reads. ‘And before anyone asks, our plates are pretty full right now, so no.’

It makes sense why Obsidian wouldn’t take on another hefty action role-playing game considering it has two others still in development.

Both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 were announced in 2020 and 2021 respectively with very brief teaser trailers. Aside from zero gameplay, both games also lack a release window.

Considering those rumoured talks between Microsoft and Obsidian were described as ‘very early,’ that means Fallout: New Vegas 2 would still be years from releasing anyway even if it got the greenlight.

As for a Fallout 5 from Bethesda, while that is confirmed to be the studio’s next game after Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, it’s not expected to see the light of day until maybe 2030.
