Warning: spoilers ahead for She-Hulk episode 9 finale on Disney Plus.

The episode 9 of Marvel series She-Hulk was full of surprises – particularly the way Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) dismantled the finale completely so she could end it on her terms.

However, one of the biggest surprises came near the end of the instalment, when Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) turned up at a family meal in his Hulk form to introduce everyone to a very important person – his son, Skaar.

Yes, you read that right. Hulk is a dad now.

At the start of the finale, the episode is jam-packed with interweaving storylines, from Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) delivering an inspirational speech to Intelligencia as Abomination, to Todd Phelps (Jon Bass) being revealed as the evil Hulk King behind the hate-filled website.

We’re excited to see where She-Hulk’s storyline will take her next, as well the future plans for her cousin Bruce and his newly-revealed son.

Hulk drops by last minute to introduce son Skaar

In the She-Hulk episode nine finale, Hulk returned from space just in time to smash into the Intelligencia meeting taking place at Emil Blonsky’s retreat.

However, that wasn’t the last we saw of him… as he came back for the family cookout – which was also attended by Jen’s new love interest Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox) – with an unexpected guest.

As Bruce showed up at the meal explaining that he’d been away on the planet Sakaar (where he’d been when Thor discovered his whereabouts in Thor: Ragnarok), he then moved to the side to introduce his son, Skaar (Wil Deusner).

The green, muscly Skaar bears a strong resemblance to his old man, except he’s sporting an extremely unique haircut and rocking clothes that are clearly not of Earth.

Jennifer looks especially baffled to discover Hulk had a child, whose backstory is yet to be explained in the MCU.

Fans elated by Skaar’s debut – but ridicule his hairline

Following speculation that Skaar might be introduced, fans were over the moon to see him make his on-screen debut after first appearing in the Marvel comics in 2007.

However, some couldn’t help but mock the character’s hairline, questioning why the front half of his hair was shaved while the rest of his locks were tied back in a bun.

‘Damn they did Skaar dirty with that hairline,’ one person tweeted, while another wrote: ‘I’m sorry but what is this hairline?! Where does Skaar get his hair done?’

Some joked that the eccentric barber the late Stan Lee played in Thor: Ragnarok was to blame for the hairdo, with one remarking: ‘The real reason why Skaar has that atrocious trim is because this guy is his barber,’ alongside a gif from the movie.

While it appears Skaar’s haircut is clearly the work of Sakaar trends, many are hoping to see an update to the character’s design by the time he makes his next MCU appearance.

Who is Skaar and how is he linked to World War Hulk storyline?

Skaar made his debut in the Marvel comics in 2007 in the first issue of the What If? Planet Hulk series.

In the comics, Hulk shares his son Skaar with Caiera the Oldstrong, who is from Sakaar.

In addition to inheriting his father’s Hulk abilities, Skaar also inherits powers from his mother, including the ability to control the earth through a source of energy called ‘Old Power’.

WOW SKAAR CONFIRMED! Marvel you son of a gun!
Can’t believe y’all actually did it! World War Hulk is coming!

In the original source material, Hulk was banished to space by the Illuminati in the Planet Hulk storyline, resulting in him plotting his revenge upon his return to Earth.

During his time on Sakaar, he becomes romantically involved with Caiera, with whom he shares two sons – Skaar and Hiro-Kala, the latter of whom doesn’t inherit Hulk’s abilities, but does master the Old Power.

World War Hulk, which has been heavily rumoured as a potential movie in the pipeline for the MCU, is a crossover storyline in the Marvel comics that begins with Planet Hulk, when Hulk was tricked into leaving Earth.

World War Hulk commences when Hulk returns to Earth for vengeance, having been forced to fight as a gladiator on Sakaar, as depicted in Thor: Ragnarok.

If you were wondering why Skaar looks so old in She-Hulk, considering Hulk was away on Sakaar for just a couple of years between the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: Ragnarok, it’s understood that Skaar matured very quickly after his birth.

The prospect of a Hulk movie seemed to be heavily hinted in the She-Hulk finale – and many suspect World War Hulk could be on the horizon on the big screen.

She-Hulk is available to watch on Disney Plus.
