Kim Kardashian has addressed the backlash to her now infamous ‘advice’ for women in business, after telling people to ‘get your f**king ass up and work’.

The 41-year-old sparked outrage earlier this year after she offered up a highly-condemned titbit in an interview with Variety, alongside sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, and mom Kris Jenner.

In the latest episode of the Kardashians, viewers were able to relive the controversy and also see how the Skims founder reacted behind the scenes.

‘What would be your advice for women in business,’ a reporter questioned, before Khloe urged people to follow their passions, insisting that things may look ‘easier’ on social media.

‘I have the best advice for women in business,’ Kim interjected. ‘Get your f**king ass up and work.

‘Success is never easy so if you put in the work, you will see results.’

The reporter then asked them about the notion that they are ‘famous for being famous’, to which Kris replied: ‘I think that has changed a lot over the last few years, that perception.’

‘We focus on the positive,’ Kim said. ‘We work our asses off and lucky us – we don’t have to sing, dance, we get to live our lives – and hey, we made it.’

Kim’s comment complaining that ‘it seems like nobody wants to work these days,’ was not included in the final cut of the episode.

The remarks drew fury from many on social media at the time, with fans calling out the Kardashians stars for being tone deaf.

Good Place actress Jameela Jamil was among those criticizing the sisters, and Piers Morgan also got a jibe in.

When the negative reaction poured in online, Kim admitted that she was ‘mortified’ by how her comments had been taken.

‘Just recently, I got a lot of backlash from my Variety article,’ she told the camera. ‘When I made that statement, it wasn’t a blanket statement towards all women. As if I didn’t think women work hard or respect the work that they do, because I see it every single day.

‘The most important people in my life, that have shaped my life and helped my life, and helped me get to where I am today, all are women.

‘I hated that that got misunderstood and for that I’m so sorry.’

Kim then doubled down on her original comments in a chat with her sisters, Khloe and Kendall Jenner, during a lunch outing.

‘I said what I said about people working,’ the mom-of-four said. ‘Do I believe in that? Yes. I believe you have to work hard in order to do that, but I was so blindsided by how angry people got.

‘Enough people were triggered so I want to be responsible and understand why people feel the way that they do – and I do understand that. A lot of people weren’t given the same opportunities.’

‘No matter what her answer would have been, people would have crucified her regardless,’ Khloe added. ‘Because they’re always going to say, “Well, what do you know? You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth.”

‘But it’s frustrating when the world doesn’t want to see you for who you are, and they want to always make whatever you say a personal attack. It’s the right message, the wrong messenger.’

The Kardashians airs on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK.
