Jamie Oliver has caught some heat in the kitchen after saying his best meals are created when he tries to ‘think like a woman’.

The Naked Chef star has built an ever-growing empire based on his countless TV cooking shows and even more popular cookbooks resulting in an estimated net worth of over £200million.

Jamie, 47, is currently promoting his latest collection of recipes in new book One, which is dubbed the ‘ultimate homage to making your life simpler’ with every recipe requiring just one pan.

Over the years, the TV star has noticed that he feels much more productive working in a kitchen full of women as opposed to a male-dominated one.

‘As a young boy, getting a craft and this energy about Michelin stars and measurement and how you control nature as opposed to how you react to nature, which I think are more feminine traits like nourishment and more maternal feelings,’ he explained in a recent interview.

Jamie then added to The Times: ‘If I’m ever good, I have to try and think like a woman.

‘If you want to see what bad looks like you go to a kitchen full of just men. It is not a good place to work so you need, we need, each other in the balance.’

While intending to highlight that, in his experience, women are better at improvising than men when it comes to cooking, Jamie’s comments have sparked backlash.

‘Jamie Oliver saying he has to begin to think more like a woman when he’s cooking is absolute nonsense. How does a woman think? Totally unhelpful,’ one critic tweeted.

Another questioned: ‘And how does Jamie think women think?’

One commentator said: ‘Mate, this ain’t the compliment you think it is.’

‘What exactly does he mean by “thinking like a woman”? Seems like an odd statement to make,’ another wondered.

One critic stated: ‘Jamie is being unfair to male chefs!’

Sharing their interpretation of Jamie’s comments, another wrote: ‘“Women belong in the kitchen” I’m begging someone to stop Jamie Oliver from speaking ever again.’

However, others defended the chef, with one supporter commenting on Instagram: ‘There’s nothing wrong with what he said…people get so offended too easily nowadays.’

Another agreed: ‘Im confused, whats wrong with this? this feels more like a compliment.’

‘Nothing wrong with this,’ one other argued.

In recent days, the father-of-five has been busy campaigning for the government to allow more children access to free school meals amid the cost of living crisis.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Jamie said: ‘If you earn over £7,400, you won’t get that free school lunch. But I think we’d all agree that there’s a massive gap between the means test for free school lunches as it stands and universal credit.

‘I think what the government are saying is universal credit tethers off and can go up to sort of £30,000 to £40,000, but really we’re talking about the bulk of them being around £14,000 per household.’

Metro.co.uk reached out to Jamie’s representative who declined to comment.
