Lorraine Kelly has opened up about how she felt ‘flat’ and ‘lonely’ while going through the menopause.

The 62-year-old welcomed The Masked Singer judge Davina McCall to her ITV daytime show, where the former Big Brother host candidly spoke about her experience with the menopause.

Ahead of World Menopause Day on October 18, the pair were chatting after Davina’s popular Channel 4 documentary Sex, Myths And The Menopause aired last year.

In her new book, Menopausing: The Positive Roadmap To Your Second Spring – with Dr Naomi Potter – Davina reflects on how so many people feel alone while going through that period in their lives, which Lorraine admitted she related to.

‘Sometimes you think you’re the only one going through it.

‘Isn’t it weird that people didn’t talk about it?’ Lorraine shared.

‘I felt like I was disappearing, and my world was getting smaller and smaller, and I felt very lonely and like I had no one to talk to,’ Davina admitted, as Lorraine nodded in agreement.

‘I think I felt flat, that’s how I would describe it, just flat, I wasn’t having fun,’ Lorranie added.

‘You’d lost joy,’ Davina said.

Lorraine continued: ‘It was absolutely that, a few physical symptoms but most of it was going on in here.’

‘It’s only when you come out of the grey that you think, “Oh I haven’t belly-laughed for months,” and now, you’re the most giggly person I know,’ Davina added.

Around 13 million women are currently going through perimenopause or menopause in the UK.

Davina’s documentary and book have really broken the taboo and opened the conversation around the subject, as she has previously admitted having a duty to talk about the menopause.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
